Thorp LRC Primary Page

We welcome all students from our feeder Primary Schools to Thorp LRC.  We love meeting the students and finding out about their favourite authors and the books they love to read. We have had some lovely sessions with Primary students from the various schools and we can offer the following activities to any school who would like to work with us.

Information Literacy

All students benefit from guided and independent research as part of their learning. We can offer the following information literacy sessions to any of your classes:

Using the Dewey Decimal System

Guiding students in searching for information quickly and independently using the Dewey System.

E-safety & online research

Making sure students search the internet safely and effectively when searching for information.

Reading for Pleasure

Sessions showing students the benefits of pleasure reading and becoming wider readers.

Using Information Books Effectively

Showing students how to use non-fiction books successfully when completing homework or subject activities.

Topic Starter Sessions

At the start of a topic we can offer research sessions where the students look for facts on the chosen topic. They will also be shown how to cite their sources when researching online or using books to avoid plagiarism.

Storybird is a collaborative storytelling platform where students can create their own picture books using artwork provided.

We can offer Storybird sessions with any year group from reception upwards either in your school or with a session booked in the Thorp LRC.

Picture Books

The following books are fantastic for Primary students to get them started with pleasure reading.  We can offer fun reading sessions with any of the books from the list.

We would like to invite avid readers of any age from our Primary Schools to become Thorp Reviewers.

We are a Guardian Book Group and often get sent junior books to be read and reviewed. We would lend these out to schools in exchange for reviews.

Any reviews sent will be posted on the website and sent to the Guardian.

If there are any students who would like to form a review group please let us know and we will set up a group feed.

From September we will be forming a Journalism Club to write articles for nebeep and The Guardian.  If you have any students who love writing then they are welcome to be a part of the club.  We will email them the subjects to be written about and they will be posted under their names on the various websites.

We will be looking for Sports, Movie, Gaming and current news writers.

All of our Primary Schools are welcome to use our Reading Cloud platform.  We can create passwords for you so your students or staff can search for books on our catalogue, reserve books browse website links.

See our Reading Cloud page for the functions of this platform.  If you would like a class session to show students how to use this please let us know and this can be set up.

We can create a series of posters and bookmarks for your Library or classroom area.

They can be motivational, reading or book quotes and can be tailored to your school or individual students.
