Welcome to the Thorp RIOT Readers page.
We are a group of readers of all ages who meet every fortnight to take part in reading and book activities, discuss books we are currently reading, recommend books to each other and have fun.
All students are welcome to join our group - just turn up with the book you are currently reading and join in!



Any student can attend book group, just bring along the book you are currently reading.


My favourite series is Lockwood & Co by Jonathan Stroud. My favourite genre is suspense. My favourite book is My Name is Mina by David Almond Some books in my top 10 are Mind Games, Wonder, Eleanor and Park and The Fault in our Stars. Some of my favourite book series are Slated, Virals, Temperance Brennan, Jack Reacher and Broken Sky. I read as often as possible.

My favourite series is Deathnote. I love horror and dystopian books. My favourite book character is Mogget from Abhorsen. Some of the books from my top 10 are My Family and Other Animals, Am I Normal Yet?, The School for Good and Evil and Butter. I read every day.

My favourite series is the Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. I love fantasy books, this is my favourite genre. My favourite book character is William Herondale. Some of my top 10 books are The Sin Eater's Daughter, Angel, Broken Sky, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. My favourite author is Cassandra Clare and I have read everything she has ever written. I read as often as possible and buy books regularly.

Our book group students all have their own reading tastes. We recommend books to each other every session. Here are some of our favourite books, series, authors and genres.

For a few years our book group students reviewed books and wrote articles for the Guardian Children's Book Site. We had the chance to interview some of our favourite authors which was very exciting for our students to do.

The Guardian books arranged for a fantastic book group visit from our favourite author David Almond, who kindly gave up his time to come and chat to us.

Carnegie Party 2012
We shadowed our first Carnegie Awards in June 2012 where we read the books on the shortlist and chose our group favourite, adding to the group blog on the Carnegie site.

Our original book group launched in March 2012. Some of the students have now left school and we welcome new students regularly.
